Biography
Singer-songwriter, Barbara Chamberlin, is a premier artist from Whitehorse, Yukon. Originally from Oregon, USA, she is a graduate in Vocal Performance from Lewis and Clark College. She has composed 4 full-length CD’s: Sanctuary, Walking With Ghosts, Of Ice and Men, and Boomerang Girl. She is now composing songs for a new CD, due out in June, 2024.
Her acclaimed debut album, Sanctuary, was nominated for a West Coast Music Award, and her second CD, Walking with Ghosts, is a treasured collection of tunes wrenched from her experience with cancer. Barbara also won the Yukon’s ‘On Yukon Time Competition’, the Yamaha songwriting award at the BC Festival of the Arts, and the selection of her song ‘November in June’ was a runner-up in the prestigious John Lennon Song Contest. She has been commissioned to write songs and has had her songs recorded by other artists.
Barbara’s fourth CD, Boomerang Girl, comes from considering herself a permanent transient of the Yukon, traveling around the world, but always coming back. Barbara is a dynamic musician with a big voice, amazing stage presence, incredible musical talent, and is considered the Yukon’s Diva of Song.
Barbara is currently the conductor of the Whitehorse Community Choir and its subsidiary choirs: the Persephones, the Neptunes, and the Whitehorse Chamber Choir. Her ensemble, Four Below Normal, was honored to sing for Prince Charles when he came to town. She has arranged over 15 songs for all the choirs and quartet. She teaches piano, guitar, and voice.
During Covid, there was not a lot of touring or performing for Barbara Chamberlin, but she is now back, and beginning to play out with various bands and ensembles around the world. She loves everything to do with music.
